In-House Fork Lift Training

We offer in-house training for your employees on your company premises. On-site forklift training has the advantage of familiarising your employees with the actual equipment and loads they will be handling in their daily work environment

Do I need a licence to operate a lift truck?

There is no “licence” to operate a forklift truck. However, the Health and Safety regulations contained in the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) published by the HSE state that people must be properly trained for health and safety purposes. Therefore, your employees must receive appropriate training. Upon successful completion of our courses, participants will receive a training certificate, also known as a ‘licence’.

Machine Types

Our training courses are tailored to meet the needs of novice, experienced, refresher and operators for:

  • Counterbalance
  • Reach
  • Pivot steer (Flexi/Bendi trucks)
  • Telehandler
  • Electric pedestrian operated stackers and transporters
  • Order Picking Machine
  • Moffett Mounting
  • VNA/Man up/Man down

Course Types

There are four different course types, all with different durations based on driver experience and the number of drivers on each course.

Novice Operators – Designed for a complete beginner who has never driven a forklift.

Existing Operators – Someone who has operated a forklift truck and is competent but has never been trained.

Refresher Course – Suitable for drivers who have either a recognised or ‘in‐house’ licence.

Conversion Course – Drivers with a ‘licence’ for one machine but is now required to use another type.

Course Ratios for Forklifts – Guidelines

  • 3 Novice operators – 5-day course
  • 2 Novice operators – 4-day course
  • 1 Novice operator – 3-day course
  • 3 Experienced but un-certificated operators – 3-day course
  • 1 or 2 Experienced but un-certificated operators – 2-day course

Refresher Training

Unlike a driving licence, forklift certificates don’t actually run out. However, it is recommended by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that all forklift operators take a refresher course. This is down to the employer’s discretion and usually not longer than every 3 years.
